On receipt, components are logged, disinfected (if required) and photographed.

Often, there are organic material deposits on the surface of explants. These can be easily removed using non-abrasive material, particularly if the explants have been placed in solution immediately after removal. This is demonstrated in the images below which show how differently an explanted head taper sleeve can look before and after cleaning.

Following cleaning, explants are coded and stored, ready for routine testing.
